This presentation will also look at a few 1 9c/18c new features that should be in use now before you get to 20c. We’ll look at how Machine Learning and Autonomous Database will change the role of the future DBA. Emerging information technology trends for the cloud h ave the power to transform organizations. In the data management and analy tics space\, a key cloud service offering has arrived. Oracle Autonomous D ata Warehouse (ADW) Cloud & Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing (ATP) simplifies the provisioning\, maintenance\, and optimization for data war ehouse workloads in the cloud\, and promotes low touch for database admini strators and load and pull approaches to data analytics. \nDatabase systems running on modern hardware are no longer constra ined by I/O or memory shortage as both of these historic performance bottl enecks have been addressed by hardware technology advancements. The bigges t constraint to system performance can now be found in a little-noticed sp ace….the single thread CPU Speed. CPU speed is often overlooked when consi dering Cloud infrastructure providers\, and it can be the difference betwe en a successful “lift and shift” or a migration that moves the company bac kward from a user experience with system performance.
\nWe will show a performance comparison of different cloud and on-premises systems\, suc h as OCI\, AWS or Oracle Exadata\, and demonstrate the differences running Oracle EBS SQL queries on them.
\nTopics covered:
\nThe impact
of single thread CPU speed on database query performance.
\nHow to a
udit database performance and gather the metrics that pinpoint the problem
s.
\nIntroduction to a public domain SQL library that can help to ana
lyze Oracle EBS performance.

\nLife is goo d\, until the phone rings and it’s a performance issue. Most DBAs will imm ediately run an AWR or Statspack report. Usually\, that’s a good start.
\nBut there is bad news. Most DBAs will also either stare at the repor t and freeze\, start paging through looking for something\, or post the re port on a forum. Neither of these solutions is a career enhancing maneuver .
\nHere’s the good news. In this presentation\, I will teach you ho w to take an AWR report or a Statspack Report\, extract only the informati on you need\, build a diagnostic framework to expose the biggest tuning op portunities and then develop solutions that directly address them.
\nThis step-by-step process can be used on any Oracle version\, architectur e\, configuration\, cloud or on-premise. It’s fast\, it works and it rocks ! Join me as we explore how to quickly find solutions to the real performa nce problems.

\nDur
ing the night\, Back-office systems have to process tons of records and ca
lculate millions of values. Systems usually are very busy during the night
. But is the night long enough to do such hard work? The end of day proces
ses in the back-office systems can take several hours. Record holders are
approaching even 24 hours!
\nIn the session\, I will discuss a succes
sful system re-engineering project that involved gathering information on
the current system and analyzing requirements\, and transforming them into
the system of tomorrow. I will walk through the main process I went throu
gh: the requirements\, design and PL/SQL code\, and the changes that allow
ed us to shorten the processing time. Not only did we improve a single pro

to several minutes.
\nCome to this session and find out what were the
key factors to achieving success!

\nDatabase I/O latency ofte n posts significant performance bottlenecks on database systems. Oracle Pe rsistent Memory database and the Oracle Memory Speed File system(OMS) intr oduced Oracle Database 21c and 19c respectively provide the support for Pe rsistent Memory (PMEM) as database storage and significantly reduce databa se I/O Latency.
\nBy mapping database buffer cache directly onto Per sistent Memory storage\, Persistent Memory Database directly uses data res iding in the Persistent Memory storage and eliminates the latency of copyi ng data into the database buffer cache.
\nThis session discusses the se two features in detail and how we leverage them to achieve the extremel y low latency and high throughputs in a high performance database system. This session provides how-to details of implementing these two Persistent Memory database features\, also provides the use cases & performance benef it studies of leveraging these two features in a high performance database system. We will also discuss the recent Intel’s announcement on PMem and the related next technology direction.

Data refreshes are time-consuming and require downtime and coordinatio n across teams. Legacy environments must balance the risk of stale data ag ainst the time\, effort\, and inconvenience of reverting databases to base lines. Even modern agile shops struggle with this task\, engineering compl ex processes or investing in third-party data management solutions. The pr imary obstacle? The way traditional databases merge software\, configurati on\, and data\, creating a bottleneck around niche skills unique to databa se administrators.\nOrganizations eliminate that dependency by shifting to a container model and delivering Data as Code. Containers separate databa se software from its data. Decoupling data eliminates the need for special ized skills\, making it another artifact in the development lifecycle. Ind ividuals and teams can create and refresh data on-demand\, version it alon gside application code\, and distribute it as code or objects. Data as Cod e reduces uncertainty introduced by data drift and allows organizations to experience greater development velocity\, consistent and reliable testing \, and improved application quality!\nPresented by Sean Scott\, Oracle ACE Director\, Principal Consultant Viscosity. A DDM has long provided DBAs with expert tactical advice on how to relieve s evere performance issues by analyzing hourly AWR snapshots. When recommend ations made by ADDM involve some element of risk\, or significant cost and effort\, administrators need confidence that implementing them will be wo rth it and to the benefit of all workloads executing on the database. ADDM Spotlight aggregates and analyzes hourly findings and recommendations ove r time periods of days or even weeks to identify those that occur most fre quently\, have the most total impact\, or that dominate during specific wo rkload periods.
