Agenda
5:45-6:45PM – Best Practices for Migrating On-Premises Databases to the Cloud
Oracle Multitenant is helping organizations reduce IT costs by simplifying database consolidation, provisioning, upgrades, and more. Now you can combine the advantages of multitenant databases with the benefits of the cloud by leveraging Database as a Service (DBaaS). In this session, you’ll learn about key best practices for moving your pluggable databases from on-premises environments to the Oracle Database Cloud and back again.
PRESENTER: Brian Spendolini is a Senior Principal Product Manager for Oracle Database Cloud Services. He has been involved in various capacities with Oracle technology for over 15 years, concentrating in the database and database application development areas. In addition to his duties as a product manager, Brian is currently working on a book about Oracle Application Express 5 which will be published in 2015. Brian resides on the North Shore area of Massachusetts with his family.
7:15-8:15PM – Oracle Application Express (APEX) for the DBA
Oracle Application Express (APEX) is the native Web application development framework for the Oracle Database. Since its introduction in February 2004 as a feature of Oracle Database 10g, Oracle Application Express has seen tremendous uptake, with hundreds of thousands of downloads, and thousands of customers with secure, scalable web applications deployed into production. In this session you will learn what you need to know about APEX from a DBA’s perspective: how to install APEX, the different configuration options for http access, system requirements and database privileges. We’ll look into the APEX instance administration, configuration of PDF printing, email and web services and how to provision and manage workspaces in your instance. We will discuss security and run-time only setup and you’ll learn what to expect when upgrading to APEX 5.0 and how to configure APEX in the Oracle Database 12c multitenant architecture.
PRESENTER: Marc Sewtz is a Senior Software Development Manager at Oracle Corporation in New York. With over eighteen years of industry experience, Marc held roles in Consulting, Sales and Product Development and manages a global team of Software Developers and Product Managers in the Oracle Application Express (APEX) development team, part of the Oracle Database Tools group. Marc and his team are responsible for product features such as the Oracle Application Express User Interface and Theme infrastructure, Mobile development, Dynamic Actions, Reporting, Charting, Tabular Forms and PDF printing. Marc has a Master’s degree in computer science from the University of Applied Sciences in Wedel, Germany.
