KEYNOTE: Mobile/Cloud Buzzword Bingo or Mobile Cloud Alphabet Soup
MAF, Alta UI, MAX, PaaS, SaaS, MBaas oh my! It seems like the world of technology has been taken over by 4-letter words. With all of the new Oracle product releases and the ever-changing mobile and cloud landscape, it is easy to get lost in the shuffle. Many application developers feel that the world of mobile/cloud is way beyond their reach. This session will review the many four (and more) letter words that leave us stumped and help you navigate the mobile/cloud world to turn these random buzzwords into a future vision for your enterprise applications.
Mia Urman is an Oracle ACE Director and a world-class expert in Oracle Forms and mobility with over fifteen years of experience presenting, supporting, training, and consulting Oracle products. In her six years at Oracle Israel, Mia was both a senior support analyst and product manager of Oracle Developer Suite (Forms/Reports), JDeveloper(ADF), and IAS technologies. Mia became intimately familiar with the challenges facing Oracle Forms/EBS customers, and founded AuraPlayer to help enterprises leverage their existing workflows on mobile devices, and as Web Services without redevelopment. She currently serves as AuraPlayer’s CEO. Mia is a seasoned presenter on Oracle technologies and has presented at various conferences including Oracle OpenWorld, Kscope, DOAG, UKOUG, and IOUG Collaborate. She has been a keynote speaker at many local Oracle Technology Network Developer Day events as well as full-day training sessions for IOUG and Oracle Week.

There seems to be some kind of reluctance especially among seasoned DBAs to use the multiple benefits that the Recovery Area in Oracle 11gR2 delivers. This presentation shows how to deal with the Recovery Area in order to:
- Protect Controlfiles & Online Logfiles
- Easily implement a robust backup strategy (including archived log handing)
- Manage Flashback Logs
Some important recovery scenarios are discussed where the recovery area comes to the rescue and helps a lot. Everything is demonstrated live.

JavaScript MVC frameworks, such as AngularJS, are an increasingly popular choice for creating sophisticated web applications. Middle tiers for such applications are most commonly written using Node, which provides developers with many tools for operations such as creating RESTful URLs, handling user sessions, and connecting to databases. Oracle offers several technologies, some quite new, that greatly assist in the development of these types of applications including the Oracle Node.js Driver, Oracle REST Data Services, new JSON capabilities in the SQL
engine and more. This presentation will explore these new technologies and how they can be leveraged to help create modern web applications with more power and flexibility ever before.
Dan McGhan is an Oracle Developer Advocate with a focus on JavaScript and HTML5. He suffers from Compulsive Programming Disorder, which is believed to be linked to his balding. Having started his development career in the land of MySQL and PHP, he was only too happy to have stumbled upon Oracle Application Express (APEX). Since then, he’s dedicated his programming efforts to learning more about Oracle and web based technologies in general. DEVELOPER TRACK: Going Mobile: Mobile Application Design Principles for ADF Development
In the past, application developers and designers were often tasked with building applications that supported different desktop computer resolutions. Today they need to support mobile as well as desktop devices. Design for mobile devices is more than just a shift to a different resolution: it also needs to consider fundamental differences in mobile devices such as their touch interfaces, ability to shift orientations, and embedded services. This presentation will briefly examine the history of Oracle tools interfaces to provide a context for the paradigm shift to mobile. It will then discuss guidelines for and tools available in ADF that can be applied to mobile design. Attendees will learn about design considerations for Oracle ADF applications that need to support mobile devices.
Peter Koletzke has worked in the Oracle development arena for over twenty six years. He is a former board member of NYOUG and IOUG, as well as a current Oracle ACE Director, and Oracle Certified Master. He has won over a dozen Oracle user group awards including the NYOUG Technical Journal Editor’s choice (three times) and has coauthored with luminaries such as Dr. Paul Dorsey, eight Oracle Press books about Oracle development tools such as the Oracle JDeveloper 11g Handbook.

This is an interactive presentation with a live demo showing how to approach a real-world performance problem, including how to avoid common anti-patterns in these type of situations:
- Fact #1: Data Volumes are ever increasing
- Fact #2: Performance SLAs are becoming more demanding
As these 2 facts become more prevalent, developers and DBAs find themselves scrambling to catch-up and meet the needs of the business. During these times, a common set of anti-patterns emerge which, if not remediated, can cause the tuning effort to fail (or produce sub-optimal results).This presentation will identify the bottleneck(s), evaluate candidate solutions, and measure the performance/scalability impact of the chosen solution. Prerequisites are a basic understanding of Oracle database architecture, Wait Events, AWR and ASH.

Most clients do not fully take advantage of their database’s auditing and logging features. For databases such as Oracle, these features are sophisticated and are able to satisfy most organization’s compliance and security requirements. This presentation will provide a clear explanation of the native auditing and logging features available, present an approach and strategy for using these features, as well as straightforward configuration steps to implement the approach. This presentation examines what Oracle Application Express 5.0 will mean for your existing applications. What changes should customers expect after the upgrade? How can customers take advantage of features like the responsive grid, new modal dialogs or the new calendar component and how do customers make the switch to the new Universal Theme? Using some of the packaged apps included with Oracle Application Express 4.2 as examples, Marc will demonstrate how to transition these apps to Oracle Application Express 5.0. APEX 5.0 introduces many new features
that enable you to quickly build modern and beautiful HTML5 applications. The new Universal Theme implements current design trends and utilizing the new declarative template options, puts powerful CSS3 techniques at your fingertips.
Marc Sewtz is a Senior Software Development Manager at Oracle Corporation in New York. He manages a global team of Software Developers and Product Managers in the Oracle Application Express (APEX) development team, part of the Oracle Database Tools group. Marc and his team are responsible for product features such as the Oracle Application Express User Interface and Theme infrastructure, Mobile development, Dynamic Actions, Reporting, Charting, Tabular Forms and PDF printing. Marc has a Master’s degree in computer science from the University of
Applied Sciences in Wedel, Germany.
